AI Pause: A Call to Action for Safe and Responsible Development of Advanced AI Systems - the response to Chat GPT

A recent letter has raised concerns about the risks posed by AI systems with human-competitive intelligence and the need for caution and careful planning. In response, we agree that the development of advanced AI systems must be safe and aligned with human values.

More than 1,000 experts, including Elon Musk, the CEO of Twitter and Tesla, are urging a six-month pause in the training of advanced artificial intelligence (AI) models. They argue that the current AI systems pose “profound risks to society and humanity” and could lead to the spread of propaganda and untruths, job losses, and the development of non-human minds that may eventually outnumber, outsmart, obsolete, and replace humans. The experts propose that there should be a halt in the development of AI systems more powerful than GPT-4 until proper safety protocols have been developed and vetted by independent experts.
The nonprofit Future of Life Institute organized the open letter signed by the experts, which calls for an industry-wide pause to ensure that the risks posed by advanced AI are adequately addressed. The letter also details the need for proper oversight and governance to manage the potential risks of advanced AI.

The letter suggests that the rapid development of advanced AI systems without proper oversight could lead to a loss of control of civilization. To mitigate these risks, the experts have proposed that all AI labs pause the training of AI systems more powerful than GPT-4 for at least six months. The pause should be public and verifiable and should include all key actors in the AI industry.

This is the response of ChatGPT to this letter:
